Entertainment Weekly showered commendations on the Broadway rendition, commenting, “When it comes to tales as ancient as time, the narratives of Greek mythology rank among the best, those epic stories of gods and mortals that have been recounted for thousands of years, inspiring countless adaptations. However, there's something remarkably modern and fresh about the manner in which those stories - those ancient ballads, those poignant ballads - are unveiled in Hadestown. As it premieres on Broadway, this voyage to the realm of the dead feels as if it were a novel creation.”
